I think, inside all of us, is that natural instinct to want to do good in the world. To want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. It’s just, how to do that, that it really makes an impact? Like when you donate money to a big charity, it always feels like it’s going into this massive pool of money and you aren’t 100% sure if or how it’s making a difference to someone’s life.

When I started this business, I knew that one day, I’d be able to use it to do good in the world, and thanks to YOUR love and support for Ubuntu Baba, we’ve been able to do just that.

Just a few days ago, we were able to donate R15,975.76 to Operation Smile via our Ubuntu Baba Happiness Fund. Happy dance!

I can’t tell you how happy this makes my heart and all of us that work here at Ubuntu Baba. Whether you’ve purchased a baby carrier from our organic hemp range, or a limited edition carrier – it’s the combination of everyone’s support that has made this small donation possible. And, I know that next year, we’ll be able to give even more and change more lives in the process.

A big virtual hug and thank you to all you Mamas that make this journey possible. You are so important and the tiny action of cuddling your baby in one of our carriers, is impacting others in the world. We see you, and we thank you. 🙏

An introduction to Operation Smile

Operation Smile is a global charity dedicated to providing free surgery to children and adults born with cranio-facial deformities and specifically cleft lips and palates. They have conducted over 300,000 surgeries world-wide and established their South African foundation in 2006. From that time they have worked in 7 different cities across the country operating on over 500 patients while at the same time providing ongoing educational programs across SA.

Operation Smile South Africa has since inception helped conduct nearly 60 missions across Africa and at the same time establish national foundations across the continent. It currently serves as the regional hub for Central and Southern Africa. Their work includes multiple missions to the DRC, Ghana, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Swaziland.

“While we continue to expand our footprint we can look back on over 6000 lives changed and look forward to changing untold more in the future.” – Sean Robson, Communications Coordinator, Operation Smile South Africa

A beautiful South African story

It is only through the ongoing support and determination of their volunteers, partners and donors that Operation Smile are able to continue to brings smiles and change to their patients, their families and communities across South Africa and the rest of Africa.

One such volunteer is Funeka Cele, and what an amazing woman. Get the tissues ready, there is so much beauty in what Funeka does, she’s an inspiration to us all and we are so happy to be able to support her journey further.
