I’ve collaborated a few times with my friend Imke from Pipapo. I bought my very first woven wrap from her and made my very first limited edition carrier with her wrap, that she had used to wrap her babies in, and then I used it to carry mine. These woven wraps all seem to have their very own history to them and it’s very seldom they arrive at our factory without a story.
Imke’s latest design “Silverlining” is currently available to purchase here, but until recently I didn’t actually know the story behind the name, and when I asked her, I had to take a moment just to process how special this fabric really is.
The story behind Silverlining
“A dear friend of mine recently lost her baby due to a genetic defect quite late into her pregnancy. I was shattered. This baby had been so loved, so wanted, so eagerly awaited. The puzzle piece that should have made the family complete. I felt so helpless, wanting to say something helpful but at the same time, knowing that nothing in the world could make it better.
What remains after you lost someone you loved so dearly? The answer for me was HOPE. I wanted to tell her that no matter how tough her day, no matter how dark her night, there is a silverlining on the horizon for her.
Being a mother is challenging so often. May it be a miscarriage, a teething or sick baby, postnatal depression, or sleepless nights. I just want to remind all the Moms out there – you can do this. Hang in there. Things will get better. And there is always a silverlining on the horizon.” – Imke
Thank you so much to Imke for sharing her story with us, I’m sure there are many Moms who can relate.
